3 Ways to Prepare for Roof Repair

If your home is in need of roof repair, you’re going to want to leave it to the professionals. There’s nothing that you will need to do to your roof in order to prep it for repair work either; in fact, you should keep off the roof altogether to avoid potentially injuring yourself. However, there are three things that you will want to do in order to prepare for the roof repair work that is going to be done.

The following are three ways to prepare for roof repair:

  1. Clear the exterior of your home – Make sure that the roofers can easily access any side of your home so that they can get up to the roof safely. This means moving any lawn tools and toys that are littering the ground so that nobody trips on them. You should also move your car away from the driveway, not only to ensure that nothing falls on it, but also so that the roofers can park close to your home, thereby making it easier for them to access the tools and materials that they need.
  2. Move or cover items inside of your home – Anything of value kept in your attic should be moved or covered. While the contractors on your roof will be experienced enough to know how to tread carefully and safely (so you shouldn’t worry about your roof collapsing or someone falling through the roof), they may dislodge dust and debris in the attic, which can fall all over your belongings. You may want to cover anything stored in your attic with sheets. It’s also a good idea to remove anything that’s hanging on your walls, especially on the second floor. Depending on the extent of the work being done on the roof, it could cause your walls to vibrate, which could cause things like picture frames to fall off the wall.
  3. Gather the proper documents –  There are three main documents you will need before roof repair begins. You should have a written contract with the roofer, a letter from the contractor’s insurance carrier providing proof of worker’s compensation and liability insurance, and a building permit that ensures your contractor will follow all of the city’s building codes.

These are three tips that you should follow in order to prepare for roof repair. To schedule a roof repair service in Birmingham, be sure to contact us at Yellowhammer Roofing today.
